Tom Smith was elected Fort Wayne's 1st District City Councilman in 1999. Presently, he serves as co-chair of the City Utilities Committee and represents council on the City Plan Commission and the Central City Housing Trust Fund.
Smith is committed to uniting our city's northeast and southeast sides. To attain this goal Smith wants to extend Coliseum Boulevard southward to link up with Oxford Street near Hessen Cassel Road. This connection will improve northeast access to our airport, Southtown Mall and McMillen Park, while providing southeast residents easier access to north side shopping. This new connection will also help reverse the adverse perceptions bred by generations of separation.
Smith has served on the Board of Trustees of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and the Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Public Transportation Corporation. At present, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Downtown Improvement District and the Valley Park Forest Neighborhood Association.
Smith is a Fort Wayne native and owner of Thomas Smith Fine Art Gallery since 1974. He is a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Indiana University. His wife, Ann, is a social worker and his two sons are in college.
