City Clerk

Sandra E. Kennedy (Sandy) has served as City Clerk of Fort Wayne, Indiana, since May of 1983.  Sandy lives in Lake Shores Addition on the south side of our city.  She is a widow with three grown children and three grandchildren.

Sandy started in city government in 1980 when she was appointed to the Board of Public Works by former Mayor Win Moses and served in that position until May 1983.  At that time she was elected to the position of City Clerk to serve the un-expired term of the former Clerk Charles Westerman and was elected by the citizens to serve a full term in November 1983, and has been re-elected in the elections of 1987, 1991, 1995 and 1999.  Sandy oversees a staff of seven employees within the Clerk's office and eight employees in Parking Enforcement.

 

Sandy has achieved the status of IAMC, Indiana Accredited Municipal Clerk and also the status of CMC, International Institute of Municipal Clerk during her term of service.  Both of these titles are granted only after an applicant has met specific requirements in education, experience and professional participation.  She is the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest award presented by the Governor of Indiana.

 

Sandy is a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and very involved and serves on two very active committees.  She is an active member of the state Municipal Clerks and Clerk-Treasurers Association, having served as their President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer, Chairperson of three state conventions held in Ft. Wayne during her tenure and presently serves on the Board of Directors.
