September 1 Salomon Farmer's Market:  Fresh Produce for a Healthy LifestyleSponsored by the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department.  At the Historic Salomon Farm on 817 W. Dupont Road.  Every Wednesday, 4-7 pm, until Oct. 13.  The market is held in the Old Barn.  Follow the gravel road back past the Learning Center and two other bards to the Old Barn. Stop by for a great selection of fresh produce, flowers, plants, herbs, honey, maple syrup, natural soaps and lotions - all grown or raised locally and most organic.  For more information: (260) 427-6005. 
September 3 Historic West Main Street Farmer's Market.  Sponsored by the Nebraska Neighborhood Association.  Located at 1936 West Main St.  Every Friday from May 14 through Oct. 22, 3-8 pm, rain or shine.  This is Fort Wayne's largest farm market.  Shoppers can expect expanded organic and local produce vendors, flowers and perennials, more baked goods and local food items, artwork, live entertainment, hot food and ribs plus a beer garden every week serving locally crafted beers. September 4  Miami Indian Heritage Days. Sponsored by the History Center. Location:  Chief Richardville House, 5705 Bluffton Road, fort Wayne, IN.  September 4, 1 pm - 4 pm.  Dani Tippman will present "Miami Harvest" on edible and usable plants and materials.  Cost: $7/Adults, $5/Students & Seniors, 5 & under and members free.  Free parking.   For more information, contact Nancy McCammon-Hansen (260) 426-2882, x 306.  Miami Chief Jean Baptiste de Richardville built a trading empire in this area that made him the richest man in Indiana by the time of his death in 1841.  His home, built in 1827, is one of the premier attractions in the Historical Society's collection since the restoration of the building's exterior.  Today his house is recognized as the oldest Native American dwelling in the Midwest and the first Greek Revival style house in northeast Indiana. 
September 11 & 12 28th Annual West Central Home & Garden Tour & ArtsFest.  Sponsored by West Central Neighborhood on Sept. 11 & 12 from 11 am to 5 pm.  The tour features 9 historic homes, 1 garden, and First Presbyterian Church.  Tickets are $12 in advance (Neuhouser Nursery, Umber's Do-It-Best Hardware, or at Antiques on Broadway) or $14 on the days of the tour (Swinney Homestead or the St. Joseph Hospital parking lot at Broadway and West Wayne St.  The tour features  free carriage and pedicab rides in the neighborhood.  The ArtsFest, which is free, takes place on Union Street between Wayne and Berry streets.  There will be over 40 artists' booths, performances, bands,  and food and drink.  For information, phone 385-9378 or visit www.westcentralneighborhood.org
September 18-19 Settler's Pioneer Village and country Store at Johnny Appleseed Festival. Sponsored by Settler's Inc. Archer Park, Fort Wayne. September 18, 10 a,m, - 6 p.m; September 19, 10 am  - 5 pm. Join Settlers at the Johnny Appleseed Festival.  Enjoy a day from the past as Settlers prepare authentic food, drink, and hand crafts.  Settlers will demonstrate basketry, spinning, quilting, weaving and more.  Take time to enjoy ham and bean soup, chicken corn chowder and beef stew, sassafras tea, lemonade, sliced apples with caramel sauce, cornbread and apple butter prepared as you watch.  Hand crafted items such as candles, soap and baskets are for sale. Free admission.  For more information, contact Denise Keane, 486-8903 or http://www.johnnyappleseedfest.com/
September 19 "50 Years of the Wildcat Baseball League" . George R. Mather Lecture Series with support of the Dunsire Family Foundation.  Sunday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. in the Shields Room at the History Center, 302 E. Berry St. Cost:  Free.  Parking is free in the lot east of the History Center or at Berry & Barr.  For more information:  260-425-2882.
September 24 4th Annual Buffalo Tro Fundraiser. Chief Richardville House, 5705 Bluffton Road, Fort Wayne, IN.  September 24 at 6 p.m. In a unique combination of education, entertainment and food, the Buffalo Tro presents an introduction to Great Lakes Region Indian cooking, followed by the cooking of hearty buffalo steaks directly on a large bed of smoldering coals, a traditional method that sears in flavor and Juices.    Tickets are $50 per person.  All proceeds from the dinner benefit the Heritage Education Fund, providing free admission to the History Center for area K-12 school children  It was the most sought-after invitation of 1827.  When Chief Jean Baptiste de Richardville's gracious Greek Revival house was built, the most prominent citizens of Fort Wayne vied to attend his dinner parties.  Once again, the Chief's house will be filled wtih lights, laughter, stories, music and a mouth-watering array of food, and this time you're invited!.   Free parking.  For more information: 260-426-2882.
